Hello and a warm welcome ladies and gentlemen to our coverage of match number 35 in the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League as the reigning champion host five-time champions Mumbai at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad for a mouth-watering clash in the largest cricket stadium in the world. The two teams come into this game on the back of contrasting results as Gujarat managed to hold their nerves and win a close encounter against Lucknow while Mumbai stumbled in their massive run chase against Punjab ending their three-game winning streak.
Gujarat have maintained the core squad that helped them win their maiden title in the last edition and look like a well-rounded unit under the leadership of Hardik Pandya. With four wins in six games they are well on course to make it to the playoffs and a win in this game will help them extend their gap over a dangerous Mumbai outfit. Their top order has been among the runs and they have some great finishers in their batting order. Their pace bowlers have managed to grab early wickets and have bowled beautifully in the death overs as seen in their previous fixture. The presence of their magician Rashid Khan guarantees them wickets in the middle overs and they are definitely one of the sides to beat this season.
Mumbai have historically been slow-starters in this competition but had a good winning momentum going with three consecutive wins until their bowling unit let them down in the last match. The batters have shown decent form in recent times and it should worry the opponents a bit as they have some devastating players in their line-up. They entered this tournament looking slightly weak in the bowling department and with Jofra Archer not at his best their fears seem to be manifesting in reality. They will need a solid bowling performance if they are to triumph against a well-oiled unit like Gujarat.
